Year 6 Fundraising Cake Sale - 12th February 2019

Year 6 children have been learning about working with others to help make the world a better place.

The children said "We have found out about many struggles in the world and have watched lots of appeals for help.  After a lot of discussion we have decided that we would like to raise funds to pay for mosquito nets to help save the lives of babies in Sub Saharan African.  We learnt that ever 5 minutes a baby dies from malaria and a simple thing like a mosquito net would help to save them.

We are holding a cake sale to raise money.  We will be making the cakes ourselves and selling them after school on Tuesday 12th February in the front playground.

Please come to support us and buy our cakes and know that the money you are giving will help buy these mosquito nets to save lives.  At a cost of £5 per net we hope you help us to raise lots of money".

Kacey, Year 6 wrote to our Principal, Kirsteen Craig, to ask for permission to hold a cake sale:

Dear Miss Craig

Our learning objective in our jigsaw lesson is to help make a difference in the world.  We have made a decision that we would like to raise money to send off to buy mosquito nets.  I am writing to get your permission to do a cake sale to raise the money.  During this lesson I have found out many upsetting things.

One thing I have found out is in every five minutes a mother loses her child.  Interestingly, mosquito nets can cut malaria by fifty percent.  One mosquito net is slept under by more than one baby.  One million people die from malaria every year.  Unfortunately in The Gambia malaria is the leading cause of death among children under five and pregnant women. Ninety percent of all malaria deaths are in Sub Saharan Africa.

Please can I have your permission.  This is all for a good cause.  I am sure you will understand. This is our way to make a difference in the world.

Kacey
